Massage & Wellness
My name is Michael and I am honored to be able to be a part of your personal journey towards better health and wellness! It is my goal to create a caring and compassionate space to provide the most effectual therapy possible. Every individual comes to the table with different needs, goals and desires and my role is to help you achieve them however I can, within the scope of my practice.
I welcome and respect people of all races, religions, nationalities, sexual identities, genders, & body shapes and sizes!
My greatest passion is working with people who are working to create great positive change in their lives. Individuals who are using massage as a part of their healing process through chronic pain, disease, injury and surgery recovery, or to aid a fitness/yoga program are some of my ideal clients.
I cater my massage work to each individual depending on their physical needs and personal preferences, drawing from over 1300 hours of training in Swedish, Deep Tissue, Thai Yoga, Shiatsu, & Sports Massage techniques to create the perfect session just for you! I am also an instructor at Oregon School of Massage where I continuously work to explore and research new techniques and methods while working hands on with my students.
PLEASE NOTE - I now only offer out-call massage services to people's homes.
My signature massage is individually catered to your own physical needs and personal preferences. I draw from techniques in Swedish, Deep Tissue, Thai Yoga, Shiatsu and Sports massage to create the perfect session just for you!
THAI YOGA MASSAGE
Thai Yoga Massage is performed on a mat on the floor and involves a combination of pressure point work, stretching, moving, pressing and pulling the body in different ways.
REIKI ENERGY WORK
Reiki is an energy-based technique for stress reduction and relaxation that promotes healing. Through the use of this technique, I transfer universal reiki energy in the form of qi through the palms, which is believed to allow for self-healing and a state of equilibrium.
What to expect at your first appointment.
Ahead of your appointment you will receive a new client intake form in your email. Please fill this out ahead of your appointment so that I can gather any additional tools or information needed to provide you will the best session possible.
At the time of your appointment I will arrive at your home with my massage table or mat (depending on session type booked). I will take a few minutes to set up the space for the massage and then we will sit down and have a conversation about you and what you are looking for out of our session together. We will discuss your medical history including any former injuries that may be affecting how your body holds itself today, any pain or stiffness you have been experiencing and any goals you may have that you are hoping to achieve in your wellness journey (so if this is your first appointment with me please allocate an extra 15 minutes for your own schedule in addition to your treatment time).
Depending on what we are hoping to achieve during our session I may also have you demonstrate your range of motion through movement of specific joints and complete an assessment of the way you hold your body while standing and/or walking.
Once we are ready to begin the massage session I will explain what the best position for you on the table will be to start and then step out of the room to go wash my hands and allow you to undress to your level of comfort and get on top of the table underneath the top sheet (Thai Yoga Massage would be an exception as that is done clothed on a mat on the floor).
Throughout our session I will check in periodically about pressure to ensure that you are comfortable and feeling the results you want. But at any time during the massage please speak up if you would like more or less pressure. And if anything is painful or feels uncomfortable for any reason please speak up right away! The goal is to make this experience as perfect as possible for you, so even the littlest adjustment that can be made to achieve that, I am delighted to do!
Do I have to get completely undressed to get a massage?
You should undress to the level that makes you comfortable. Most people do get fully undressed when receiving a full-body massage, but if leaving your underwear on makes you more comfortable, that is totally fine. If undressing at all makes you uncomfortable there are also options such as Thai Yoga Massage in which you remain fully clothed for the entire session.
Will I be covered during my massage?
Yes, you will be properly draped by sheet or towel to keep you comfortable and warm. Only the areas being worked will be undraped and no areas will be undraped without your consent.
Can I talk during my massage?
Of course. This is your time and if you want to talk during your session that is totally fine. But if you want to just be silent and relax that is totally fine too. I will respond to anything you say or ask during our session, but I will not initiate conversation during our session aside from checking in about things directly related to the massage.
Where is your space located?
I have opted to exclusively offer out-call services to client's homes, so no longer maintain a space myself.
What if I'm "too hairy", "too out of shape", "have a differently shaped body part", "missing a limb", etc.?
Don't worry! As a massage therapist I see all sorts of different bodies and I believe that they are all beautiful! You have absolutely nothing to be ashamed or worried about!
What if I get an erection?
Don't worry! This happens all the time as it is a natural reaction that can happen to the male body when in a relaxed state. Sadly the fear of this causes many men to avoid massages. You will be properly draped and unless the way you are positioned makes you physically uncomfortable there is no need to do anything about it.
